Welcome to Heart 2 Heart, Inc.
Heart 2 Heart, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing support to juvenile offenders and their families in an effort to aid and assist in life transformations by helping to meet the needs of at-risk youth. The organization started in late 2003 with the goal of making an impact on the lives of youth residing in the St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center. Heart 2 Heart accomplished that goal with unprecedented success. As a result, Heart 2 Heart (H2H) expanded to the Saint Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. Heart 2 Heart (H2H) has become a staple in Detention Center programming by providing mentoring, educational, and community service opportunities for youth and their families.
The ultimate goal of the H2H organization is to help juveniles identify what they need to make lasting change in their lives and to then meet those needs with tangible services during the critical post-Detention period when youth return to their families and communities.
The H2H program is divided into two main components: the Detention program and the Aftercare program. During the Detention program, youth in Detention attend four sessions, once per week for a month. Each session deals with a different topic (see curriculum attachments). During these weekly sessions youth participate in various activities including role-plays, group discussions, testimonials, writing assignments, and group building games.
These sessions have H2H focusing young people on change and the change process with an emphasis on what youth need to make change real in their lives. Chuck and Denita stress to the youth that their organization exists in the community to help youth and their families succeed and they pass out contact information to all participants. Their hope is that youth will contact them upon their release so that they can enroll youth in their aftercare program and provide the multitude of services that H2H has to offer in the community.
