The organization was conceived and founded by Chuck and Denita Robinson of St. Louis during 2003. Denita Robinson is a teacher in the Pattonville School District and worked on developing a curriculum for youth that would teach respect, citizenship, and positive decision-making skills through a four-session workshop. She establishes an instant rapport with youth and uses her teaching skills and endless energy to connect with youth during the sessions.
Chuck Robinson coordinates community service projects with youth who are involved with Heart 2 Heart. Mr. Robinson adds a unique perspective to the weekly sessions in Detention because he has sat in the same chairs as the youth he now leads enabling him to speak from a first hand perspective regarding the need for change. He now works full time for the organization.
